Many people seek therapy because they feel stuck inside themselves. One part wants growth or healing, while another part feels resistant, anxious, or overwhelmed. You may find yourself asking, “Why do I keep reacting this way when I know better?” or “Why does change feel so hard?”
At CARE Counseling, Inc., we approach these questions with compassion rather than judgment. Through our Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Group, we help clients understand these inner conflicts as meaningful—not pathological—and support them in developing self-leadership from the inside out. Understanding Yourself Through an IFS Lens
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is built on a simple but powerful idea: your mind is made up of different parts, and all of them have a reason for being there.
According to the IFS model:
-
Protective parts work to prevent pain, rejection, or vulnerability
-
Wounded parts carry emotional burdens from past experiences
-
At the center of every person is the Self—a steady source of calm, curiosity, clarity, compassion, and confidence
When the Self is able to lead, inner chaos often settles. IFS does not ask you to eliminate parts of yourself—it helps you understand them, care for them, and restore balance within your internal system.
Why an IFS Group (Not Just Individual Therapy)?
While individual therapy can be deeply effective, group therapy offers something unique: healing in relationship.
The IFS Group at CARE Counseling provides a structured, supportive environment where participants can:
-
Learn to notice and name internal parts with greater awareness
-
Experience how self-leadership shows up in real relationships
-
Observe how others navigate their inner systems—often reducing shame
-
Practice being authentic while remaining grounded and regulated
Because this is a closed group that meets for nine sessions, trust and safety are intentionally built over time. Many participants report that the group setting helps internal changes feel more real, embodied, and lasting.
What You’ll Work On in the IFS Group
This group is designed to help participants move toward inner connection and coherence, not symptom suppression.
Participants will be supported in:
-
Developing a non-judgmental understanding of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
-
Recognizing how protective patterns developed for valid reasons
-
Strengthening access to Self-energy (calm, compassion, clarity)
-
Learning IFS-informed tools to navigate internal stress or conflict
-
Relating to others with greater openness and emotional safety
Sessions are guided, trauma-informed, and paced with care.
Who Might Benefit from This Group?
The IFS Group is designed for adults who want to deepen their relationship with themselves, including those navigating:
-
Trauma or chronic emotional stress
-
Anxiety, depression, or emotional reactivity

Beginning with Curiosity
IFS teaches that healing does not come from forcing change, but from listening differently. When you approach your inner world with curiosity and compassion, transformation often follows naturally.
