For individuals living with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) or Other Specified Dissociative Disorder (OSDD), daily life can require enormous internal coordination. Managing work, relationships, therapy, and self-care—while navigating dissociation—often happens quietly and without recognition from others.
At CARE Counseling, Inc., we believe that support for dissociation must be grounded in safety, respect, and present-day functioning. Our DID and OSDD Support Group was developed to meet exactly this need: a structured, therapist-referred group focused on stabilization, connection, and reducing isolation—without trauma processing. Why Present-Focused Support Matters
Many individuals with DID or OSDD spend years in therapy doing important individual work, yet still feel alone in their lived experience. While trauma processing has its place, ongoing stability and support in the present are equally essential.
This group is intentionally designed to:
-
Focus on current functioning rather than revisiting past trauma
-
Support internal cooperation and awareness
-
Reduce confusion, shame, and isolation
-
Complement—not replace—individual therapy
By keeping the group grounded in the here-and-now, participants can build confidence and connection without becoming overwhelmed.
A Thoughtful, Referral-Based Group Model
The DID & OSDD Support Group is a weekly, in-person psychotherapy group for individuals who are:
-
Diagnosed with DID or OSDD
-
Currently engaged in individual therapy
-
Referred by their treating therapist
This referral-based structure helps ensure that each participant has appropriate external support and that the group remains a safe and regulated environment for everyone involved.
The group acknowledges the complexity of dissociation while also challenging the misconception that these conditions are rare or untreatable. Instead, we emphasize understanding, skill-building, and shared humanity.
What Participants May Gain From the Group
While each person’s experience is unique, participants often report that group support helps with:
-
Feeling less alone in their dissociative experiences
-
Gaining language to describe internal experiences more clearly
-
Increasing grounding and present-moment awareness
-
Normalizing experiences through shared understanding
-
Strengthening collaboration with their individual therapy work
The group is not about comparison or disclosure—it is about connection, validation, and steadiness.
