Brain & Body Healing: A Trauma-Informed Therapy Group in Naperville

At CARE Counseling, Inc., we believe healing happens when the mind and body are supported together. Trauma does not live only in our thoughts—it is held in the nervous system, muscles, breath, and patterns of protection that once helped us survive.

That is why we are offering the Brain & Body Group, a trauma-informed therapy group designed for adults who want to better understand how traumatic experiences have shaped their nervous system—and how to gently restore regulation, connection, and safety.

This group is grounded in neuroscience, somatic therapy, and relational healing, offering a compassionate space to reconnect with yourself and others. Brain and Body Group

Why a Brain & Body Approach to Trauma?

Trauma often leaves people feeling disconnected—from their bodies, emotions, and relationships. You may notice symptoms such as:

  • Chronic anxiety or hypervigilance

  • Emotional numbness or shutdown

  • Difficulty calming your body even when you know you are “safe”

  • Strong reactions that feel out of proportion or hard to control

These responses are not signs of weakness or failure. They are signals that your brain and body adapted to overwhelming experiences in order to protect you.

Research in neuroscience shows that the brain has a lifelong capacity for change. With the right support, new neural pathways can form—pathways associated with safety, regulation, and self-compassion. This group is designed to support that process in a structured, relational, and trauma-informed way.

What Happens in the Brain & Body Group?

The Brain & Body Group is an open, weekly therapy group limited to eight participants to maintain safety and connection. Sessions integrate education, experiential practices, and group support.

Participants will:

  • Learn how trauma impacts the brain, nervous system, and body

  • Reframe trauma symptoms as adaptive survival responses rather than personal failures

  • Practice somatic techniques that support regulation and body-mind integration

  • Develop a deeper understanding of their own nervous system patterns

  • Strengthen neural pathways associated with safety, connection, and self-trust

  • Experience resonance and healing through safe group relationships

The group moves at a respectful pace and emphasizes choice, consent, and self-awareness throughout the process.

Who Is This Group For?

This group is open to adults who have been impacted by traumatic or overwhelming life experiences and want to better understand how to regulate both mind and body.

You do not need prior experience with therapy groups or somatic work. Many participants come feeling unsure, guarded, or curious—and that is completely welcome.

Why Group Therapy for Trauma?

Trauma often occurs in relationships—and healing frequently does too. Group therapy offers something individual therapy cannot always provide: the experience of being seen, understood, and regulated in the presence of others.

In a carefully facilitated trauma-informed group, participants can experience:

  • Reduced shame through shared understanding

  • Increased nervous system regulation through co-regulation

  • A renewed sense of belonging and safety

For many people, group therapy becomes a powerful complement to individual counseling.
